My Sky Selling Like Hot Cakes
The Herald reports that Sky TV has sold and installed 7000 My Sky PVR (Personal Video Recorders) that allow customers to schedule programs to be recorded to a hard drive.
I’m one of those 7000, being the perfect early adopter, and my overall experience has been fantastic. I’ve had some issue lately with it dropping my recording schedule, which is a little annoying as that is a pretty important part of the My Sky box’s job. My understanding is that TV networks, have to supply to Sky the “Series Link” data, which basically tells the My Sky box, that a future show next week is the next episode of the current show, so you can tell it to just record “My Name is Earl” every week. The problem is, the networks have struggled to supply this data accurately.
Aside from that, it completely changes the way you watch television. I actually spend less time watching tv, because I fast forward through the ads, and I only ever watch stuff that I’m really interested in, because if there if there is nothing on worth watching at that particular time, I’ll just watch a recorded show. Even if I do have time to watch a show at the scheduled time, I usually just do something else for the first 15 minutes or so and then start watching so I can just zap through the ads.
